- WHY RESCUE IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME -
I became involved in dog rescue after a very bad pet store experience in 2001 -- the dog that opened my eyes to the horrible reality of puppy mills and welcomed me to the world of rescue was Bruno. Bruno passed away less than 24 hours after I officially adopted him. We had formed a strong bond within minutes of our first meeting and shared many wonderful hours together -- he was a very playful little guy.
It was because of Bruno that my family looked to rescue when we decided to get a playmate for Bogie in 2004; we saw Tiggy's sweet face on PetFinder and he turned out to be the perfect match in every way possible!! From the minute we met Tiggy we felt so incredibly blessed that he had somehow found his way all the way from Kansas to our home in New York. Then, in 2007, Delilah - a precious Red Nose Pit Mix, stole my heart and soon became part of our family.
For the past several years I have been fortunate enough to be a volunteer at three local shelters -- during that time I've had the opportunity to meet and work with so many wonderful dogs. I LOVE what I do and encourage every animal lover out there to volunteer at a local shelter ... it's not always easy but it is the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
